Synfuels China demonstrates First Fischer-Tropsch products from the new Shenhua Ningxia Coal-to-Liquids plant

December 12, 2016. Synfuels China is presently commissioning the largest single coal-to-liquids plant in the world, at the Shenhua Ningmei 4 Mega ton / year (ca 100.000 barrels per day) Coal to Liquids Project, located in the Coal Chemical Industry Park of Ningdong Energy, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The project uses Synfuels China’s iron-based, medium temperature Fischer-Tropsch technology. According to the Synfuels China’s website, this project, owned by Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group Co., Ltd., accounts for an investment of 55.0 Billion RMB.

Early December the large Synfuels China Team on site celebrated the first production of Fischer-Tropsch products. This important milestone in the start-up of the gigantic complex was covered on CCTV, the national television.

The Ningxia project, for which planning started 15 years ago and construction commenced in October 2013, converts regional, low-grade coal in 24 gasifiers, to produce clean syngas, purified by Rectisol units. The Fischer-Tropsch section plus product upgrading section then process liquid fuels, including diesel, naphtha, LPG, alcohols, with sulfur and ammonium sulfate as byproducts. As the core technology provider, Synfuels China provides the technology licensing and process design package for F-T synthesis unit and product upgrading unit. Synfuels China Engineering Company is responsible for the engineering design and procurement services for the F-T synthesis unit, product upgrading, de-aerated water and condensates treatment, as well as the intermediate liquids tank farm.

The Ningxia plant represents the largest single capacity CTL project in the world. It is important for meeting the increased demand for oil consumption in China.

Syngaschem cordially congratulates Synfuels China on this happy event and wishes them every possible success in bringing this impressive plant to full capacity in the coming months.
